SNAKE BOY
"Snake Boy" is a film about the masks we wear to make every day life bearable. And about how those masks slip, allowing us to grow and to become ourselves more fully. The film developed out of my previous film, set in Berlin Youth Prison, where I encountered a lot of young men who hid who they were. I wondered what caused them to put on a mask. I am also confident that quite a few of the people I met in prison would have liked to buy a snake, if given the chance.
A co-production of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg with SWR/arte. In post production, set for release early 2027.
A twelve year old boy skips school to roam the outskirts of Berlin, selling snakes to other children.
